Who were the Myrrh-Bearers? They were Mary Magdalene; Mary, the Mother of James; and Salome. These women brought burial ointments to the empty tomb and announced to the apostles and disciples: Christ is risen!
Why is this retreat for girls/teens and women named after the Myrrh-Bearing women? This name emphasizes the role of women as the first witnesses to our Savior’s Resurrection. Like the Myrrh-Bearers mentioned in all four Gospels, God continues to invite women to embrace the call of their unique vocation to evangelize and proclaim the Good News to their families, parishes and communities.
The retreat began years ago under the leadership of Sr. Jean Marie Cihota, of the Sisters of St. Basil. We continue her legacy as we dedicate this and future retreats to her eternal memory.
